There is great trouble looming at IEBC after a select number of commissioners refused to resign.
Following the Supreme Court decision which nullified the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta and called for fresh elections, there has been great pressure for electoral body to restructure and take control something which the chairman Wafula Chebukati has embraced fully.
He flexed his muscles the previous day when he appointed new commissioners to oversee the fresh elections which are scheduled for October 17th. This saw some notable names removed from the line up including the CEO and the head of secretariat Ezra Chiloba.
Well, as one of the commissioners Roselyn Akombe revealed to the Bloomberg, the commissioners targeted have refused to step down dipping the already troubled commission into more quagmire. In a normal democracy, people would have introspected; they would have opted to step aside. They have failed to do that. Roselyn proclaimed.
According to the commissioners, IEBC is not Chebukati alone and he had no powers to make the changes he did but Akombe who fully supports the changes on the other hand believes that Chebukati acted within the law as the National Returning Officer.
This confusion comes in the wake of a backlash with the various political divides which have rejected some of the new appointments claiming political intervention.
All this has warranted Chebukati calling a crisis meeting this morning and the citizenry is keenly waiting to see how it all unfolds.
